Top 25 Casual Games for the iPhone

July 05, 08 by Doug

Casual games on the web are great. Casual games on your iPhone(anywhere you want) is that much better. Nintendo has done a great job at proving the ‘causal video game market’ is nothing to scoff at. Take a look at the online casual game market they’re able to bring in over $1 billion in annual sales.

It’s been just over a year since Apple released the 1st generation iPhone. . .and already casual games have made their mark. Below is a list of the top 25 games for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

25 – Lexitron
This game is like the famous Word Jumble you always find in the newspapers. Find out how many words you can spell with the given letters.

24 – Gemlogic
This game is like Bejeweled. . .but with a twist. You can move ‘gems’ multiple times, which makes it not as challenging.

23 – Towers of Hanoi
This is a famous math game/puzzle. . .consisting of 3 rods and a number a various sized disks.

22 – iSnake
iSnake brings ‘Snake’ aka ‘Nibbles’ to your iPhone and iPod Touch. This port uses the accelerometer to control the snake, which can be fun, but less precise.

21 – Millionaire
Taken from the popular game show ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’. Sadly you start to see the same questions over and over since it hasn’t been updated.

20 – iSlots
Video slots are now on your iPhone. . .the only thing they could do to improve this application is actually let you ‘pull’ the lever to spin.

19 – ParkingLot
This uses the same concept as BlockPuzzle. . .but with cars. This game also have a decent sized level pack that will keep you busy for hours.

18 – iCave
One of the most addictive flash games I have ever played before. . .now you can play it anywhere you want. This game combines the best of Cave and iCopter and is actually a very polished game.

17 – CubicMan
Flip the rectangle box around the area, and ’set the box up’ onto the green square. Be careful not to fall off the edge!

16 – ContraSense
Tilt the iPhone or iPod Touch to steer your car. Collect the good items, dodge the bad ones. . .and it even keeps your high score. This was a great gave with version 1.0. . .version 1.3 takes it to another level.

15 – iBlackjack
Video Blackjack is a great game to keep your skills sharp for your next trip to Vegas or Atlantic City.

14 – Garf
Not only is this the classic game ‘Simon’ aka ‘Memory’ for your iPhone and iPod Touch, but it also lets you use ‘themes’ to change things up.

13 – Lights Off
I remember getting this handheld game when I was a kid. . .the puzzle levels included keep me coming back.

12 – Chuzzle
This is a variation is the Bejeweled game. . .with fuzzy. . .things? It also has a few other fun surprises.

11 – NetChess
Classic chess wherever you go. This game also includes ‘online’ play, so you can play people across the internet.

10 – PuzzleManiak
This is great because it’s over 20 games in one game. . .and it also keeps track of your high scores and ranks you in the online leader board.

09 – SuperPong
This isn’t really pong at all. . .but it’s Breakout. This gives you the option whether or not you want to use the accelerometer to control your ‘paddle’.Alternatively you can just use your finger to control it.

08 – Mines
I was worried at how well this application would be(with the squares being so small). but it detects it rather well.

07 – Mahjong
This game wasn’t very functional at first, but with the first update it included a zoom in and out feature which makes it perfect.

06 – FiveDice
Yahtzee! on the iPhone and iPod Touch. This was 1 of the first full games to be released in Installer. It still holds up today almost a year later.

05 – Sudoku
Everyone has played(and most of us enjoy) the good old puzzle game – sudoku. This will fulfill all of your suduko needs.

04 – iSolitaire
Classic Solitaire on your iPhone and iPod Touch that you control with a touch interface. Now if the cards only ‘fluttered’ at the end, instead of bounce around.

03 – iZoo
This might not look like much at first, but with the Bejeweled theme installed it is a GREAT clone for the iPhone.

02 – Tetris
Tetris + Touch Interface = Epic! That about sums it up.

01 – Trism
This is a original game designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch in mind. It lets you turn the device to determine which way pieces will ’slide’ down after you match 3(or more) of the same color triangles.

delicious

@komacrew that was a tough decision too. However I thought not many of the casual gamers would play texas hold ‘em poker. Like if there were a video poker game that was 5 card draw. . .then I would have included it

    sorry koma
