Download PwnageTool 2.0.2

August 09, 08 by Doug

Note - The PwnageTool is for Mac users. Windows users should click here to download WinPwn.

The iPhone-Dev team has come through tonight and officially released the update!!! They recommend that you update the application through ’sparkle’ which is the internal updating tool that comes with the PwnageTool. However if you would like to download and install it you can. . .

Click here or here or here to download PwnageTool 2.0.2.

This is what they say about the Installer 4 beta

Installer 4 Beta is included, it is part of a custom package inside “Advanced Mode” the main installer package management interface within PwnageTool isn’t enabled yet, and will report that installer.app isn’t available, but the actual Installer.app package is added as a default option in Advanced Mode.

Note - Even though it is in beta. . .it is still safe to install and use. They just say it’s beta so you can’t blame them for misc. errors. For the most part it’s finished, but just to be safe they call it beta.

Now we’re waiting for the owners of the repositories(BigBoss, Skylar, R4mon, ipod touch fans, etc) to release their sources for the new Installer.

Subscribe to our RSS Feed and I will keep you updated on new sources when they are released.

Should i wait to update my firmware to 2.0.1 if i want to jailbreak using the new WinPwn 2.0.2? Or would it be safe to update through iTunes then jailbreak when the WinPwn 2.0.2 is released? Also which is better Cydia or Installer? I jailbroke my old iPhone using the ziphone software and really like the installer app but if Cydia is better i will use it instead..

  3. Doug Says:

@2nd it will be safe to update normally. with you will need to take the 2.0.1 firmware and make it a custom one anyways, so you’ll end up ‘restoring’ to the custom firmware anyway

I like Installer better. . .then again my website is called InstallerApps.com lol.

Installer has been around longer, and it’s known about by more people

Should you wait until installer is out of beta before you try it or is it safe to try while its in beta? Also im kinda new here so what does it mean when they say that installer will be available with Cydia? Does that mean you acutally need to download Cydia then install the installer app through Cydia?

@Chris, It is safe. The only reason they say it’s beta is so you can’t blame them for unexpected errors. It won’t brick your iPhone or iPod Touch.

To installer Installer you need to hit the advanced mode in the Pwnage Tool. I am not sure if Installer will be listed as a package in Cydia.

@John, no idea on when WinPwn is coming out. You can upgrade to 2.0.1 if you want. . .you will need to take the 2.0.1 firmware and make it a custom one anyways, so you’ll end up ‘restoring’ to the custom firmware anyway.

I like 2.0.1 much more than 2.0(a lot less buggy)

  10. Doug Says:

@John you have to take the 2.0.1 firmware, plug it into winpwn and have it make a custom firmware. then you will go into itunes and do a special restore, selecting that custom firmware you just made. Then it restores like you are updating to a new firmware.

I will be posting a step by step guide when it comes out(just like I did with the 2.0 firmware jailbreak)

    Bravo for PwnageTool 2.0.2 !!
I have a question, I previously jailbreak my phone using ZiPhone.
And I heard that by upgrading directly with PwnageTool, it could cause brick

So, my friends recommend me to upgrade the phone using regular firmware then, restore using Pwnage Firmware.
    Is this step true?
I’m currently in firmware 1.1.4 (since the uncertainty of jailbreaking) and wondering weather I can just upgrade my phone to firmware 2.0.1 directly

@ronald, i would recommend doing this for any upgrade. remember when the developers test a jailbreak they make sure it’s on a freshly restored device.

If I already used the pwnage tool to upgrade to 2.0 a few weeks ago, will the custom installer that gets made save my current apps from the apple store? I know it’s stupid, but I have the light saber app and since it’s getting pulled from the store I am wondering if I will have to just re-install all my current “legit” apps.

@josh, it will ask you if you want to restore from a backup, but when it couldn’t for me(i think that’s cause i restored from an already jailbroken ipod).

so if it happens to you what happened to me, then no. you’ll lose the light saber app

you can always download ‘isaber’. . .until they pull that one too, lol

Let’s see, so far the “moron” posts are from:

    KRAZED - a REAL moron

    RONALD - sort of stupid

I have just jailbroken my 1st generation 2.0.1 iphone. I have the Cydia and Installer application and it seems like the jailbreak process using Winpwn 2.0.4 went well. I was able to restore my contacts, from a previous restore point, however I seem to get no service nor does it recognize my carrier. How to I fix this problem. Also is my iphone now unlocked or will that take another process, and if so does anyone know how to go about it? Thank you.

This only jailbreaks your iphone. . .it will NOT unlock it for another carrier.

However if you are on AT&T and you get this, it’s because you selected the activation option, and didn’t need to

  38. Lane Says:

@Time, that’s because there isn’t an unlock for the carriers yet. You HAVE to be on AT&T even after jailbreaking. if you jailbroken and put in a T-mob sim etc on 3G iPhone it will not work as a phone, just the device itself will work. You’ll have to do a restore in iTunes. It’s very hard to go from latest (2.0.2 back down to anything previous if I’m not mistaken. I had to go from 2.0 to 1.1.4 once and it took hours and many attempts…so good luck if that’s the case. If you are an AT&T subscriber, then just restore in iTunes, then jailbreak again (so you can instal Cydia apps etc, but don’t expect to use the iPhone 3G on anything other than AT&T. (In the States anyway that is, not yet anyway). Good Luck.

There are numerous posts everywhere on the web stating that the 3G cannot be unlocked for other carriers yet, i think you missed that memo. ;-)
