Note - I have updated the step by step Jailbreak Guide for the 2.0.1(and 2.0.2) firmware.

The next update to WinPwn has officially been released. . .now you can jailbreak your 2.0.1 firmware!

click here or here to download it.

The way to Pwn your iPhone or iPod Touch is the same as before(here). . .just remember to go into the ‘application tab’ to include Installer in your jailbreak.

Now we’re waiting for the owners of the repositories(BigBoss, Skylar, R4mon, ipod touch fans, etc) to release their sources for the new Installer.

Subscribe to our RSS Feed and I will keep you updated on new sources when they are released.

@john, yes this is for windows. i normally do the step by step guide instead of doing a video. it’s easier for me to explain things with the guide

@james, from what i heard 2.0 was really a beta that was pushed to the public early. but even if it wasn’t it was full of bugs(and slow). 2.0.1 is 2.0 but updated to fix the issues and optimize the code.

hi doug. Thanks for the updates. Quick question. What will I have to redo once I update the custom firmware? Like, will I have to re download all my custom apps andsetup my email and stuff, or will everything me restored once the firmware is updated?

@john, the guide is already out
    http://www.installerapps.com/jailbreak

@Ty, normally it asks you if you want to restore from a backup. for me it didn’t, so i had to restore as a new device.(but i restored from an already jailbroken device, so that might have been the reason)

@s41n7, that’s the last piece of the puzzle, we are now waiting for the owners of the old respositories(skylar, bigboss, etc) to release a source compatible with the new installer

im lost at number 2 for the guide the b) part. i downloaded the winpwn i opened the setup and installed it on my desktop. now what is the b) part for?

2 - Get Your IPSW File Ready
    a) 2g iPhones - 3g iPhones - iPod Touch 1.1.5
    b) iPod Touch owners that have already purchsed the 2.0 update can browse to “c:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\”.
Note ‘USER’ is the login name for your windows installation. Like for me, USER is Doug. . .since when I setup my computer I used Doug as the user account. This will be different for everyone

I guess this doesn’t make any sense for ipod touch 2.0.1. I mean I’ve updated 2.0.1 from 2.0 and I can’t download the firmware 2.0.1 for ipod touch anywhere. I can’t download the 2.0 firmware anywhere. googling only displays firmware 2.0.1 download links for iphones. I guess pawning 2.0 and then upgrading to 2.0.1 from itunes doesn’t make any sense. does it? it means i’m left with only one option - pwning ipod touch 2.0. is there a way to download ipod touch 2.0.1 so that I can pwng it?

I’ve read all guide thoroughly but my bad; the firmware for Windows Vista is located in C:\Users\Ashok\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates. I got it from there. Sorry Doug. But as nick I’m getting the same error error 6 (unknown error). It appears when I try to restore the ipsw file. Any idea?

it worked (no error 6)! This is what I did - update itunes, browse .ipsw, build it, didn’t pwng itunes (i.e. no pressing of iPwner), set the ipod touch in DFU mode, and then done (it did took some time; more than usual). If anything goes wrong I will update here!

i had also the error 6 - but this was when i choosed the installer! after this i choosed cydia and not the installer and it works…
but i want the installer ^^
could it be that the installer doesn’t work with the 2.0.1 firmware?

apparently im not the only one whos having error 6, there are forums on the WinPwn site and the ModMyifone.com forums

error 6 is from a non DFU style boot but alot of us (me included) are getting the error even when we are in DFU
apparently its some sort of bug from WInPwn that people randomly got to work

ill post anything if i find out why its not working

ok i was in a huge rut and tried pwning my phone about 25 times

this morning i did some research and found out that WinPwn.com has a guide from bigboss on it and i followed it

i have a 1st gen iphone 2g with AT&T and for the advanced tab of the winpwn i unlicked everything, clicked both cydia and installer 2.0, i did custom boot images and made partition 550

also the only other thing that i can see that was different than the other 20+ attempts was i got the same number and size firmware from a different place (modmyifone)

    hope this helps

1st Question: If I pwn my iPhone 3G now, and September rolls around and Apple releases fw 2.1, I’ll just be able to update through iTunes to a legit firmware, and then pwn again (when there’s an updated Winpwn of course)? 2nd: One of the steps in your tutorial says we have to use iPwner, and that pwns iTunes. What exactly does that mean that iTunes is pwned? Will an update to iTunes de-pwn it? Do I need the latest iTunes for this to work? If other iPods use that computer and iTunes, will there be any problems with that? Thanks!

I have just jailbroken my 1st generation 2.0.1 iphone. I have the Cydia and Installer application and it seems like the jailbreak process using Winpwn 2.0.4 went well. I was able to restore my contacts, from a previous restore point, however I seem to get no service nor does it recognize my carrier. How to I fix this problem. Also is my iphone now unlocked or will that take another process, and if so does anyone know how to go about it? Thank you.

Nick, error 6 comes when you try to downgrade and the iphone is not in DFU mode.

Go to http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034 and follow the instructions to put your iphone in DFU and that will solve the problem…

    Release Home
