Run applications in the background!
Backgrounder is a Mobile Substrate-based extension to Apple’s SpringBoard application launcher that allows applications to run in the background (applications are normally terminated upon suspension).
Backgrounder is here to save us from the inability to have applications run in the background! A feature prohibited by Apple when reviewing apps for the App Store. Now you can still receive IMs in AIM and check your emails at the same time, listen to Pandora while checking out MySpace, or whatever suits you.
To activate Backgrounder on an application simply run the app, say AIM. Now you press and hold down the home button till a message appears “Backgrounding Enabled (Continue holding to force-quit)â€. Once that message is displayed you can release your home button and be taken to the springboard. To disable backgrounding on an app it is the same process. Keep in mind an app will stay in the background until you disable it yourself!
You’re also able to set certain applications to run in the background by default. The process is less straight forward; I will leave it up to the developer’s page to explain. (http://code.google.com/p/iphone-backgrounder/wiki/Documentation)
I say you should go download this right now, even if you don’t think you’ll use it that much you never know when you could use it even for a second.
