PwnPlayer

Version: 0.1b5
A full-featured media player that aims to be a replacement for the stock media player. It mimics almost the same interface with the same functionality, plus enables a lot of extra cool features such as file system playback, search, lock-screen gesture based playback control, and on-the-fly playlist managing. Future updates will include plug-ins, video playback, and more!
Here we have PwnPlayer, an app that strives to be a replacement media player to the default iPod app. As of right now PwnPlayer can only play back audio, but already has all the features of the iPod app and more like gesture control, with great aspirations for the future like plug-ins and video playback.
PwnPlayer is compatible with your iTunes library and other libraries with it’s file system playback. The app automatically syncs with MewSeek to allow playback of any files you have through that. You’re also granted the ability to search through your music library for a specific song, artist, album, or individual files. You can also create, edit and delete playlists on the go within the app.
Another unique feature is gesture controls on the lock screen. With a directional swipe you can easily change the volume, swipe up or down, move ahead a track or back, swipe right or left, or double tap to play or pause.
Currently PwnPlayer doesn’t support video playback, but is their top priority for a future release. One big feature planned is plug-in support to enhance the functionality of the player. Perhaps an app for streaming podcasts, Last.fm, lyrics, or more file formats.
So if you’re looking for an alternative to the default iPod app with high aspirations for the future, you should definitely look into PwnPlayer.

I dont like this app at the moment for one reason; I like to have my music right at my finger tips, and this app is soooooo slow……… I mean compared to the default ipod player anyway. So at the moment its not very useful to me, but with video comming (what formats does it support?) and more updates this will probly be my fav.

@Jay
I assume it would support the default formats at least. With the ability for plug-ins it could support any format if it was developed.

For some reason it’s put my phone into Safe Mode 3 times from the Lock Screen interface. I really only use shuffle mode when I’m driving, so considering the frequent crashes, plus the aforementioned load time, plus having to specify in the player that I want to shuffle, this is not a good enough alternative (yet) to stock iPod + Pockettunes. Also, it’s irritating that I can specify swipe direction. For some reason, the default Left -> Right swipe doesn’t seem intuitive to me if you want to go forward a song. If you’re turning a page in a book, the movement is opposite. Ok, sorry, just ranting. I LOVE the fact that I can see Album Art from the lock screen interface as I shuffle though. Before it crashes, of course.

It also crashed my Springboard to Safe Mode 3 times since I have been using it. The crashes happen when using the Lock Screen gesture control. I love everything about the app except for the crashing. Once this is fixed, it will replace the iPod player.

If it plays avi when the video comes in, it may be a good alternative. Otherwise… seems pretty pointless.

its actually not that bad. its not as good as the normal player, but the search option is nice. the only reason i wanted it was because of that, so if apple makes a search option, ill probably stop using this. One thing that is absolutely useless is the play/pause with volume and shit on the unlock screen. doesnt work at all!
