Jailbreak 2.2 iPhone and iPod Touch

Update #2 – The iPhone Dev Team has now officially released the jailbreak for the 2.2 iPhone and iPod Touch Firmware. They have released updates to both The Pwnage Tool AND QuickPwn(so it’s available for both windows and macs. Check which one you want below(Pwnage Tool is for Macs. . .QuickPwn is for both Windows and Macs).
Update #1 – The Rip Dev team has released an application called ‘Pusher’ that will jailbreak the iPhone 2.2 firmware(both 2G and 3G) with a Mac(Windows version is coming soon).

So the 2.2 iPhone firmware has been released today. You might be wondering if you can jailbreak the 2.2 firmware right now. Just like the iPhone Dev Team said in their post a couple of days ago. They haven’t released a jailbreak to the 2.2 firmware yet, so if you still want your unlocked 2G iPhone, and your jailbroken iPhone applications then do NOT upgrade.
What you can do is subscribe to the RSS feed or bookmark this post. . .the second the next version of The Pwnage Tool and Quickpwn is released(Just like I did for the 1.1.4, 2.0, and 2.1 iPhone Firmware) then you will find that this post will be updated, and a new post will explain exactly how to do it.
Below you can find some facts from the iPhone Dev Team. . .
* The 2.2 firmware for 3G contains a baseband update for the 3G iPhone
* The 2.2 firmware for 2G (1st gen iPhones) doesn’t contain a baseband update and the baseband is still at 04.05.04
* We believe that our Pwnage technique (and therefore the Jailbreak) isn’t affected, but PwnageTool and QuickPwn do not support this release as yet, so DO NOT install 2.2 using iTunes as you will lose your jailbreak
* If you apply this update and you previously relied on PwnageTool or QuickPwn to activate your phone, it may become temporarily deactivated and unusable (until we release the new version of PwnageTool or QuickPwn).
* PwnageTool and QuickPwn updates will be released as soon as possible that will allow a safe update path to 2.2 the release of these updates is inevitable but not imminent, we are creating the modifications right now and we need to put the new software through the usual testing process.
* If you apply this update and you have third-party (non AppStore) applications that you rely on they will stop working.
* 2G (1st gen) iPhone users who cannot wait for the new PwnageTool or QuickPwn can safely “Update†to 2.2 using iTunes, this will preserve the existing activation. However “restoring†to 2.2 using iTunes will return the iPhone to the unactivated state. If you are in any doubt just wait. NB: This works for 2G ONLY.
* The use of SIM-Proxies (small circuit boards/chips that sit underneath the SIM card) to provide GSM/UMTS service on your locked iPhone 3G is a method that we have always advised against. Early reports suggest that the 2.2 update disables the functionality of these devices. The techniques used were always unreliable and we are surprised that they have lasted this long.
* We are not working on the 2nd generation iPod touch at the moment, so we cannot comment on what the the 2.2 software update may do to this specific model

i just make the update to 2.2 and i cant go back to 2.1, itunes dont le me do it, im using a mac, i tunes 8, this f*cking version 2.2 crash more than the 2.1, what can i do to go back?

2.2 works great. I am jailbroken 2.2 and it works great. But if you want to go back to 2.1 it is easy. Just download 2.1iphone firmware from http://thebigboss.org . Then after downloaded add it to your desktop. No matter if you have iTunes 8.0 or higher, put your iPhone into DFU mode instructions are at bigboss web site, how to DFU! Then when in iTunes after in DFU mode click shift restore and 2.1 firmware is on your desktop, click 2.1 restore from the desktop then your phone will restore 2.1, the phone will go into recovery mode this is ok! Then open quickpwn 2.1 it will promt you that your phone is in recovery. It will tell you to hold the power button and home button for 15 seconds. Leave it pluged in and it will kick it out of recovery mode. Check your firmware it will be restored back to 2.1 then jailbreak with quickpwn 2.1 presto all done. Any questions respond.

I downloaded the 2.2 quickpwn firmware and the 2.2 ipsw file try to get it to work but all I got was an error message is there another why to do it or did I forget something

Hi today i hav upgraded my iphone 2g to v2.2.earlier it was 1.1.4 but now i am stuck with a locked sim.i cant use my sim which i could earlier before the upgrade.kindly help me as to what am i supposed to do.

Ok so does this jail break work for the iPod touch 2g 2.2 firmware? I don’t want to accidentally break my brand new 400$ iPod by some shity accident XD so just email me or something at aaron0011@msn.com

my i touch is 1st generation, its 2.2 firmwear and i have downloaded quickpwn. when i plug my itouch into the computer, an info box comes up and says ” This version of QuickPwn can only jailbreak devices with versions >= 2.0″ it doesn’t make sense because i know my itouch is 2.2, i went to settings/general/about/ and it says it’s 2.2 (5G77). what does this mean, and can someone please help me?

This Jailbreak is for iPhone 2G and 3G as well as for the iPod Touch 1G!
And both devices have to bet at 2.2!!
For the iPod Touch 2G (what I have), there is not jailbreak YET! I am waiting for it too from the iPhone Dev Team!

Hi! I have a jailbroken Ipod Touch 1.1.1 for about 7 months and I’m planning to upgrade it into the 2.2 firmware. So far, I discovered that you can only manually upgrade it to 2.2 using your desktop computer. And it’s really difficult especially for the beginners. Wouldn’t it be possible if you guys could code/write an easier jailbreaking process over the Safari for upgrading into 2.2 firmware??? Like the ones in 1.1.1, you have to go to jailbreakme.com over the Safari just to jailbreak your Ipod, right? I was hoping that maybe you could also do the same with the 2.2 firmware. It would be a lot easier and more convenient. I really can’t manually upgrade my Ipod over the desktop. MY computer is very slow and it would take a lot of time just to get something downloaded, especially if it’s a heavy file. So please, consider making an easier jailbreaking process over the Safari. Many would really appreciate that. Hope you think about it. Thank You!

okay i have a 1st generation itouch with 2.2 firmware. i used quickpwn to jailbreak it but when i go into whatever the new installer is called it will not let me do the mandatory updates and all that good stuff. so therefore i cannot get any themes or games because the updates cannot be done. after confirming the download it will try to install the application, then an error message will come up saying something along the lines of”lost connection to the host” or when doing the mandatory updates it will just say running at the top, the complete will come up but it will never accually do the updates. i have rejail broke my ipod a few times and it never works. if you know my problem please email me at atownbraves93@yahoo.com

I jailbreaked my itouch using quickpwn version 2.2.5 and it worked fine… until i tried to install something from cydia -> it says something like: POSIX: server not open blaa blaa (it wasnt like that but something like that) anyone got the same prob ? know how to fix it?

Just jailbroke my iphone 3g using qck pwn… worked well, no issues. No crashes or anything yet. Im having a hard time figuring out how to get additional apps though… any ideas? I have cydia and the installer. The installer only finds a few apps. I tried adding nore sources, doesnt seem to be getting me anywhere though.
