Doom

December 01, 08 by Daniel Burkholder

Version: 1.1.0

Doom comes to the iPhone and iPod touch! Based on the iDoom, and ported by Steven Troughton-Smith with help from ZodTTD! This release includes the shareware doom1.wad. It supports commercial wad files from Doom1 and 2.

Doom is upon us! Well, on our iPhones and iPod Touch actually. This is the classic Doom game from 1993. It supports game saving and loading, and commercial WAD files (you must provide those). Keep in mind this is not the full game, the included levels are shareware and limited, you can provide your own WAD files to play more.

The controls are straightforward, left and right buttons to turn left or right, a gun button to fire, a button to change weapons, and for moving forward and backwards you tilt the device forward or backward. Controls seemed sometimes jerky to me but it was bearable. To access the main menu just tap the display. I would’ve liked to have had the ability to scroll through the menu with my finger, but you have to use the buttons which are a little unclear of what does what in the menu.

Overall this is a good port of Doom, it still has a few bugs with the controls to work out. Hopefully they’ll get squashed eventually. But it’s fully playable right now, load up Cydia and give it a try.

Well converted version of the original and classic doom game, however there is no forward/back button and the character is continuously running which makes it incredibly difficult to play, would be worth a download if the forward/back feature was included.

My mistake, the motion control is the forward/stop control, it’s still not easy but definitely makes the game playable
