Walmart Will Not Be Selling $99 iPhones

At least not the 4GB models that were rumored by The Boy Genius Report. Boy Genius has been blogging about Walmart selling iPhones since October but the latest response from AT&T was that this was not true. It’s possible that AT&T is being forced to lie until the official announcement has been made. . .but it doesn’t look good.

I actually think this would be good for both Apple and AT&T during this recession. It’s well known that cheap places like all-you-can-eat buffets, the dollar store, Walmart and other discount places do well in a bad economy. Having an iPhone at a place like Walmart(and possibly Sams Club) for only $100 is great to snag those impulse buyers. I could totally see iPhones at the checkout counter, lol(I bet they would actually do that if it weren’t for the required contract).
