The Dev Team (The people who make the wonderful applications to jailbreak our devices) have demoed their iPhone 3G software unlock. This new program named “yellowsn0w” will be released on December 31st. Unfortunately if you’ve upgraded your iPhone 3G without using pwnage to preserve the baseband you’re out of luck when yellowsn0w releases. And even though it’s unlocked, the iPhone 3G won’t run on T-mobile’s 3G network due to hardware differences (it will run on EDGE though).
Check out the Dev Team’s blog to watch the demo of yellowsn0w here.

And just in time. . .I was worried that it wouldn’t get done until after Christmas. Now we’re our own server with 1GB of ram(instead of 10MB) and now we’re on a 100Mbit line(instead of a 10Mbit).
It’s not that InstallerApps.com was slow before, but now it’s super fast. But now the website will not get a ‘500 internal server error’ anymore(which has been happening a lot lately).
Please, let me know if you see something that’s broken or doesn’t look right.

I’ve been in touch with Marware for the past week. What I was looking to do was review the Game Grip that they sold. . .and then give it away like I normally do after reviewing a product. When I got the email, I read that it was only for the iPhone 3G and 2nd Generation iPod Touch. Well, as you may know. . .I don’t have either of those. I immediately contacted Marware to confirm whether or not it would work on my 1st generation iPod Touch. . .or my iPhone 2G. They said ‘due to manufacturing cost’ they just weren’t able to come up with a model for the older devices.
I told them that I would put ‘return to sender’ on the box when it got here, if they wanted(since I wasn’t able to actually review it). They were disappointed that I wasn’t able to do the review, but thankfully for you guys. . .they said that I could still give it away to a lucky reader!!!
So, if you have a 2nd generation iPod Touch or an iPhone 3G and want a chance to win a free Marware Game Grip, then I have a contest for you!
Leave a comment to this post. . .and tell me what game you think this would be the best with. This contest will be open until the end of the year(the 31st at midnight).
Note – You must live in the United States to participate in this contest. Entries are limited to 1 person per IP address. . .per email address. I will be going through all new entries every day to check for duplicates(and all duplicates will be deleted at the end of the contest).
Also, since I can’t do the review myself, it would be nice if the winner did a review. So a week after they receive the Game Grip, I would like them to email me their thoughts and opinions. I’ll copy and paste it into a new post so that everyone can read it.

I hope everyone is enjoying some time off from school or work and you’re able to spend some time with your family. For the holidays(and because we’re waiting for the hosting to get upgraded) InstallerApps.com will be taking a little vacation. I might log in and do a small post here or there, but for the next week posts we’re essentially going to take a break.
If you notice InstallerApps.com go offline during the next week that is actually a good sign. Not long after that you will see us back online, and faster than ever(100Mbit baby!)
This has been one heck of a year. From pizza boy to full time blogger. . .I just want to thank everyone who has been with me for the long haul(and the new readers too!). I hope that we can make 2009 even better.

This will all be going on at AppStoreApps.com, but you can subscribe to the RSS feed to be notified when it starts!

AppStoreApps.com has been loading semi-slow lately(with some 500 errors even on this website) so it is time that we upgraded out hosting account. We’re going from a shared account to a dedicated server so things will be loading MUCH faster now.
I’m not really sure exactly how long the upgrade process with take. . .or when it will happen. After the move the files over, I have to go in and restore the databases, so during this process the website can go up and down

We have an announcement from the iPhone Dev Team that the iPhone 3G has been unlocked! There has been hardware unlocks that have cost money in the past, but now it’s been done on the software side. . .and it will be free!
There is some good news. . .and some potential bad news. . .
* The target release date for the unlock is New Year’s Eve 2008.
* This unlock method is available to iPhone 3Gs that have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier, we did warn you.
* The unlock requires a jailbroken 3G iPhone.
So if you’re baseband is later than 2.11.07 then you’re out of luck. If you read further into the post, they link back to and older one that says “If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.”
