xGPS
Version: 1.1.0-1
Powerful maps application to display it’s own GPS position on a map. Can download maps for offline use.
xGPS is a replacement navigation application that can work with the external GPS modules like the one from OrangeGadgets for the first-gen iPhone, or iPod touch. It also works with the iPhone 3G’s built in GPS. Another key feature about this app is the ease to download maps for offline use, making say, your iPod touch a great navigation device. Perfect if you don’t have any connection where you’re at.
To get started start by going into the settings and selecting your GPS device. While you’re there you can turn on some other optional settings. You can also download maps within the settings by highlighting an area and let it download from there. Once done return to the map and enable your GPS. From there you can press the little magnifying glass to do a search for directions or a city. It will quickly display your route.
This is another app I really like, it’s perfect if you don’t want to use the network for maps all the time and a perfect solution to turn your iPod touch into a GPS. It calculated routes fast, along with finding my location. Sadly I could not try with one of the external GPS modules, but with an iPhone 3G it was great. Definitely a reason to jailbreak your phone if you’re unhappy with the default Maps app supplied by Apple.
