Finally having been given an alpha copy of Boxee for Windows, I’m now able to try out the Boxee remote app. If you’re unfamiliar with Boxee, think open source Apple TV for Linux, OS X, Windows, and the Apple TV. This app wants to turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a wifi remote. And testing it out while playing some music, it worked pretty well. It has two modes, gesture and button mode. As you might have guessed, gesture mode let’s your device act as a virtual mouse with your finger tip to navigate throughout Boxee. Button mode gives you a D-pad interface with a center select button. Both modes are real useful, but I prefer the D-pad mode over the gestures. Either way as a remote for your Boxee box, this isn’t a bad choice.
