Jailbreak 2nd Gen iPod Touch [Guide]

Since the Dev Team finalized their iPod Touch 2G jailbreak, completely untethered, we’ve got guides for your on how to jailbreak your iPod on a Windows or Mac.

Windows
Before you start, download C++ redistributable and LIBusb.

1. Download unofficialsn0w 2.0

2. Get the 2.2.1 iPod Touch

3. Rename the 2.2.1 ipsw to OriginalFW, and place it in /IPSW

4. Run IPSW.bat (It will take a while) (Vista: Run as Administrator)

5. Open JB.IPSW with Winrar or 7.zip

6: Go into Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n72ap.production\ and delete the LLB file

7: Drag the LLB file, located in the same folder JB.IPSW is, and place it in Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n72ap.production\

8: Exit your program

9: Put your iPod Touch in DFU mode
9a: DFU Mode – Attach your device to the PC. Turn device off. Hold the Home and Power Button at the same time for 10 seconds EXACT. Release the Power Button until your computer recognized the device. Your screen will be blank, but iTunes will pop up showing your device.

10: Run RUNME.exe

11: While holding Shift, click the Restore button in iTunes and direct it to the JB.IPSW you made and let it run.

12: Enjoy.

Mac

1: Download FinalSn0w and unextract

2: Inside you’ll find two files named Libusb Tiger and Libusb Leopard. Install the one that pertains to your copy of OS X

3: Put your iPod Touch into DFU mode
3a: DFU Mode – Attach your device to the PC. Turn device off. Hold the Home and Power Button at the same time for 10 seconds EXACT. Release the Power Button until your computer recognized the device. Your screen will be blank, but iTunes will pop up showing your device.

4: Open Finalsn0w and click the Jailbreak button

5: Once you’re prompted to restore in iTunes, Alt or Option key click on the Update button in iTunes. Direct it to the Custom Restore.ipsw file.

6: Wait for iTunes to finish restoring

7: Enjoy

    I jailbroked my Ipod2ndGen this morning! under windowsXP (didn’t want to risk with my Vista :-p
    Just had a little hard time entering true DFU mode for a while. Beside that I did everything as written.

    After the restore installs it says the device has been reset to Factory Settings and that it will restart automatically, then my device goes blank and a window pops up near the bottom of the screen saying “A USB device has malfunctioned” and it wont turn on.
