set up an account on www.mecanto.com and download the program to upload your music (PC only). Mac users you can upload manually, a pain, I know, but again, better than nothing!

Then open the app and enjoy.

NOTE: One major draw back is it doesn’t run in the background. With Backgrounder, however, you can override that flaw.

YourTube sucesses MxTube by integrating the functionality of MxTube into YouTube.app making things a lot more convenient. You can download videos through YouTube in high or low quality to watch any time with our without internet connection. Another side feature is the ability to offload your download videos as an .MP4 via SSH in /var/mobile/Media/Downloads/YourTube/. Bottom line, this is a great app to have and you can free up some space and get rid of MxTube now.

Live video streaming from your iPhone.

There are many services for streaming video out there, one offering it’s services through a native iPhone app is Bambuser. It’s easy to use just log in, set a title and broadcast. There are a few options like toggling between high quality vidoe and audio, sending your location or a private mode.

As far as video quality goes, here is a test without High Quality video turned on, and here is one with it on. As you can see the quality is alright though the optimal way to use this app is with High Quality on, it was the only I could make out anything I was seeing. This was over Wifi for both tests, I didn’t try 3G or EDGE due to lack of service area, but I can imagine the quality will be worse to compensate for the bandwidth over 3G or EDGE. But if you’re looking for a mobile steaming solution, Bambuser is worth a shot.

UStream.tv lets anyone with an iPhone to broadcast to the web anywhere.

UStreamBroadcaster is a simple way for you to record video live to Ustream.tv anywhere you’ve got your iPhone. Simply load it up and start broadcasting or recording video. You can also record/broadcast audio but it must be enabled in the options first. While broadcasting you’re given a live viewer count with the ability to see the live chat room and ask viewers a question live.

In the setting you can change video quality, toggle audio broadcasting/recording, location sending, channel settings, and Twitter auto posting when you start broadcasting.

Watch all your favorite Ustream live shows!

Ever wish you could stream videos live from Ustream? You’re wish has come true. With the Ustream Live Viewer you can stream a number of live and recorded shows straight to your iPhone or iPod touch. Load it up, find a video you want to watch and let it go. You can watch videos in landscape mode, along with share it to friends via email. Only problems I had with it is sometimes it would take a while to start buffering and there is no pause button. Not deal breakers, but just minor annoyances.

A remote for Boxee

Finally having been given an alpha copy of Boxee for Windows, I’m now able to try out the Boxee remote app. If you’re unfamiliar with Boxee, think open source Apple TV for Linux, OS X, Windows, and the Apple TV. This app wants to turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a wifi remote. And testing it out while playing some music, it worked pretty well. It has two modes, gesture and button mode. As you might have guessed, gesture mode let’s your device act as a virtual mouse with your finger tip to navigate throughout Boxee. Button mode gives you a D-pad interface with a center select button. Both modes are real useful, but I prefer the D-pad mode over the gestures. Either way as a remote for your Boxee box, this isn’t a bad choice.

A simple utility that enables videos recorded in iPhone Video Recorder or Cycorder to be uploaded in the PixelPipe app from the App Store

There’s not much to the app, the tweak only shows it self in PixelPipe, a multimedia upload utility that allows upload of multiple pictures to many web sites. Now you can upload your recorded videos just as you would uploading pictures through the app as usual. Definately two apps to try out togethor if you want to upload your videos on the go.

ClearCam takes 4 megapixel images through special processing on your iPhone.

ClearCam claims to use special processing technology to produce a crisp image equal to 4 megapixels out of the built in 2 megapixel camera. Using the camera is just like the default iPhone camera app, point and shoot. When you take a picture it actually takes six pictures to produce the highest quality image. From there you can choose to align the images and enhance them. Once done you can save it to your phone’s main picture folder.

Now going around taking pictures I couldn’t find big differences in any setting or lighting condition. Only minute differences in clarity. The “enhancing” didn’t seem to have a real profound effect either. It’s a decent app, it’ll help protect against little motion blurs when it takes multiple pictures so you can pick the best one. But don’t rely on the image enhancement.

Something to note, the app did cause a weird bug with my iPhone camera I’ve never encountered before. It made every picture a took just a solid forest green color. No matter what camera app I took a picture in. It took a reboot for it to work correctly again.

wavearsLE is the ultimate 3D music player. Your stereo tracks are played in true surround quality. What’s more, you hear them outside of your head instead of having the sound stuck between your two ears.

wavesrsLE wants you to listen to your music in a new way on your iPhone or iPod touch. The app paired with a decent a pair of cup headphones (for best performance) let’s you experience your music coming from all around you, not just right between your head as you normally would. It sounded really good when I was testing it, I would make this my new media player if it weren’t for a few things.

To start, as of now it only supports .wav files, no MP3s or AAC. You’ll want to reconvert your library to play your songs. The app will not run in the background or play with the screen locked, both downers. But this is definitely a cool app which I’d like to see prosper, load up Cydia and try it.

Play your audio and video without a server.

AVPlayer takes advantage of the app MobileFinder to allow you to browse your file system and play your media. But, it’s dependence on MobileFinder is it’s down fall. To actually get to your media you have to find it in MobileFinder and open it with AVPlayer. Just opening AVPlayer on your springboard will do nothing.

Seeing how AVPlayer just takes advantage of the media player in Safari, you could open the media in Safari from MobileFinder. Or better yet, use the app store version of MobileFinder, which has it’s own easy to access file system and play it from within the app as well.

Overall I find this to be another crap-app. Sound and visual quality is the same as it would be in the default iPod app, and getting to your media takes too much effort for little benefit.

An application to download and watch podcasts.

StreamCaster is a new podcast manager for the iPhone or iPod touch. You need to manually enter the RSS fees to the podcast then you’re free to view your favorite podcasts. It supports streaming and says downloading, didn’t find any such feature.

StreamCatcher seems pretty half baked to me. Having to manually input rss feeds instead of a searching through a database of them, and the lack of downloading, streaming only, makes one ask why wouldn’t you use the mobile iTunes store or use a better alternative, Podcaster.

LiveCLIQ: Stream the video from your iPhone directly to the Web.

LiveCliq is a video recording and live streaming app directly to LiveCliq.net over the air. Getting the application up and running is a little awkward, harder that it should be. But once it’s set up you’ll be recording and streaming videos to your account to then share with your friends.

You’re able to change different types of resolution, mute sounds, set tags and titles and whom to stream to. If you’ve recorded a video you’ll have to sync it using the sync menu. Streams and automatically saved to your LiveCliq.net page.

LiveCliq is like combining Cycorder, a popular video recorder, and Qik, a live video streaming app. It provides recording and saving of videos, also when within wifi, allows streaming. Though unfortunately, after I recorded some video and uploaded it, compared to Cycorder and Qik, the quality was pretty bad. Check out a quick test video for your self.

So if quality means something to you, and I’m sure it does, LiveCliq might not be for you. The other video recording and streaming solutions have proven better in my testing.

vlc4iPhone is a media player and built-in internet radio tuner for the iPhone and iPod Touch based on VLC.

vlc4iPhone is as the name suggests, VLC for your iPhone. If you’re unfamiliar with VLC it’s a popular media center software usually on the PC which is known for playing pretty much every file format around.

You’re allowed to browse media throughout your file system, even what is synced through iTunes. Along with that it has great support for internet radio with a plethora of stations set by category and searchable. It also has a recent menu to display media you’ve played lately, and support for book marking media and radio stations

dTunes is an iTunes equivalent for playing downloaded music and video files. dTunes also provides direct access to music and video sites for downloading files.

dTunes could be your all in one music and video downloading and streaming application. dTunes provides you various sources to retrieve media from the net and either download or stream it to your device. By default Seeqpod.com, and tinytube.net are your primary music and video sites. There’s also a service you can sign up for called iTorrentRelay. It’s a web based torrent client to download torrents directly to your device.

Using dTunes is simple. Select the type of media you’d like to search for in either music, video, or torrents. Type in your search, select your result, and either play or download. If you download, dTunes saves your files in it’s own file system, unfortunately, you cannot load files downloaded in dTunes on the default iPod application. Instead, you play them within dTunes, which has the same easy to use interface as the iPod app.

Overall dTunes is a nice iTunes replacement for downloading media from the net, though if you want to play your downloaded media in the iPod app, unfortunately there is no support for that and you’ll have to use dTunes to play any content. Keep in mind you should only be downloading legit media, we here don’t support piracy.

Firefly Starter is an application to turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a media server that communicates via Bonjour, iTunes.

Simply launch the application, set server name and password and turn on the server. iTunes will detect it and allow you to steam your media with ease (granted they’re on the same network).

You can also manage it remotely via a web page by typing the ip address of your device, I.E. 192.168.0.4:3689. Enter your login credentials and you’re in.

A full-featured media player that aims to be a replacement for the stock media player. It mimics almost the same interface with the same functionality, plus enables a lot of extra cool features such as file system playback, search, lock-screen gesture based playback control, and on-the-fly playlist managing. Future updates will include plug-ins, video playback, and more!

Here we have PwnPlayer, an app that strives to be a replacement media player to the default iPod app. As of right now PwnPlayer can only play back audio, but already has all the features of the iPod app and more like gesture control, with great aspirations for the future like plug-ins and video playback.

PwnPlayer is compatible with your iTunes library and other libraries with it’s file system playback. The app automatically syncs with MewSeek to allow playback of any files you have through that. You’re also granted the ability to search through your music library for a specific song, artist, album, or individual files. You can also create, edit and delete playlists on the go within the app.

Another unique feature is gesture controls on the lock screen. With a directional swipe you can easily change the volume, swipe up or down, move ahead a track or back, swipe right or left, or double tap to play or pause.

Currently PwnPlayer doesn’t support video playback, but is their top priority for a future release. One big feature planned is plug-in support to enhance the functionality of the player. Perhaps an app for streaming podcasts, Last.fm, lyrics, or more file formats.

So if you’re looking for an alternative to the default iPod app with high aspirations for the future, you should definitely look into PwnPlayer.

Rejected from the App Store, now watch and manage your favorite audio and video podcasts on the go.

TouchCast is a native podcast manager like the infamous Podcaster app. You’re first greeted with your added podcasts, either audio or video. From there you can add your favorite podcast’s RSS feeds easily through the app. To start playing a podcast from your list, simply select them and select which episode you want to watch/listen to.

This is easily your best friend if you’re like me and would love to watch/listen to your favorite podcasts while on the go. Though the app is not free, you start off with a free trial to get a feel for the app, after it is only $3.

It is a shame that Apple rejected this application from the App Store. . .then again I guess that means more for us, right?

Qik enables live video streaming fro your iPhone to the web.

Qik is like the Flixwagon application but with a more active community. As an example my Flixwagon video(shown earlier today) had about 80 views. . .this one has over 600. You could get into semantics, saying this one does has this and this one doesn’t have this. But in the end it’s all about the community and the experience. Some might like the way Flixwagon handles the videos compared to qik. In either case, these are 2 applications that should be in the App Store(but I doubt you will anytime soon).

I don’t think this has a ‘chat feature’ like the Qik application does, but other than that it’s essentially the same(Qik has a few additional settings). I do like the variety of video settings with this application. . .I believe the Qik app only has 2 different video settings.
