iRunner is a powerful application that delivers you the accurate and up-to-date statistics about your work out. Using GPS feature in iPhone it gives you the info about the distance you have run, your current, average and max speed.

The summary provided in the app description pretty much sums this up. It’s quite simple and doesn’t fuss with unnecessary details. I, personally, would enjoy a more polished look, but it gets the job done and without frills.

I’m also kind of in love with the voice over effect. It takes me back to the days of HAL 9000. Yes, HAL, I would like to play a game…

That alone makes this app worth downloading.

You can customize an alert to “gong” at a selected interval to help you track your time, and if you’re not of the American sort and want to measure in metric, you can do that too.

Once your run is complete you are provided a tidy summary of your stats. The one glaring omission, however, is lack of log file. Though you can complete your run and have your stats offered, there is no where to store it for future use unless you take a screen grab, which isn’t exactly ideal.

iEdit is a text editor with an integrated file browser, image viewer, and HTML viewer.

If you need a fast and efficient text editor that can also view images and HTML in your iPhone or iPod Touch’s file system then you’re in luck, iEdit can do all of those. Navigate around with the file browser to find the files you’d like to view. Depending on if they are just text files, HTML files, or images, you’ll have to change the viewing mode on the bottom. It seems like it cannot change modes on it’s own depending on the file type. You can even create folders in the file browser. Typing is how you would expect it on an iPhone, just a blank screen and you can put whatever you want in there and save it. Simple.

Scan barcodes instantly and search for low prices with your iPhone, 3G, or 3GS.

I know there have been a lot of bar code scanning apps out there in the past, but RedLaser is the first I’ve ever used and I’ve got to say, this is pretty cool. Simply take your iPhone’s camera and point it at the product and hold it still, it will automatically start searching for the product online once it acquires the UPC. Just walking around the house scanning some of my games and other things it works great. Bar codes are actually really cool!

An advanced web browser for the iPhone packed with features that aren’t in Safari!

Prospector wants to reinvent how you browse the web on your iPhone/iPod Touch by giving you new features in a browser Mobile Safari does not have. The only features Prospector has over Safari is just the ability to download files and transfer them via a server that the app hosts it self, and set home pages. Other than that, it’s not much of an upgrade from Safari. It noticeably renders pages slower than Safari, controls are a tad out of place and worst of all, there are advertisements. So unless you’re absolutely dying to be able to download and transfer files from the web, I would not consider Prospector as my mobile web browser.

onTop is a web browser with a built in notepad to be a versatile way to take notes from the web.

I’m sure you’ve come across a time where you’ve found something browsing on Safari that you’d like to write down in Notes, perhaps a phone number or an address. You can’t copy and paste that information (yet), and going back and forth between Notes and Safari is a pain. With onTop you can browse the web like you would on Safari except with a press the icon looking like a piece of paper you’re given an overlay and can type out some notes on the fly. Want to take notes of a picture you have saved on your device? Press the camera icon, select a picture and like before, you’re able to add an overlay and make notes. To go back to the web simply touch the globe. Now that you’ve made your notes you can export them via email.

I have to say onTop adds some utility and removes the hassle of making note of something on the web. I wouldn’t call it a complete Safari replacement as it is missing things it has like multiple pages, bookmarks, and takes longer to load pages. But if you know you’ll need to write something down onTop is a good choice.

StudyArcade at it’s heart is a flashcard application.

Need to study for a test, don’t want to make flash cards? Let StudyArcade be your study partner. You download fact packs which you use like flash cards. A question is displayed and flip it over to see if your answer is correct. There is also a quiz mode which uses the same packs to assemble a multiple choice quiz for you to take.

This is definitely a useful app. But with the limited selection of face packs makes StudyArcade lose some brownie points with me. Perhaps if there’s a way to male your own fact packs and distribute them or download packs from third parties StudyArcade will be much better. But for the packages thy are available it’s a great addition to your iPhone or iPod Touch.

iTicker is a dynamically updating feed of sports scores, news headlines, or any other RSS feed.

Similar to the little ticker you might see showing stocks while watching the news, iTicker is similar in that it displays RSS feeds at the bottom of your iPhone or iPod Touch in a convenient way. It currently shows MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL scores periodically. But that’s not all, you can configure iTicker to show items from any RSS feed. Simply SSH into your device, /Library/Themes/iTicker, find the HTML file inside and edit this:

This is simply a nifty app, useful for things like Twitter, stocks, and more. Though it needs an app to go along with it to change the feed and other settings. SSHing is a chore, once it has it’s own app it’ll be much better off.

Get a week’s glance of your calendar at once

myWeek is meant to be a visual demonstration of your calendar events. It’ll read your calendar database and give you two different weekly views and a yearly view of it. The week view shows your calendar events over a 24 hour period, the boxes which are your events to demonstrate the time frame of each event.

There is also a plethora of settings you can set. Notification badges, week start dates, birthdays from contacts and in colors, time frame markets and colors, background color or image, calendar selection, and the time format.

iPhone or iPod Touch task manager

MemTool is here to help you manage the processes running on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It provides information of each task you’ve got running, ram, and cpu usage. With each individual process you have the option to stop the process entirely to save memory and cpu cycles. Or, you can just let MemTool free up some ram for you automatically.

Bottom line, this is a good app for people who like to keep tabs on what their device is doing, where the memory is going, and what’s bogging you down. Only issue I have is some dialogues come up in a foreign language, I’ve only encountered it once, but wish I could know what it was saying.

Adds text to speech to your iPhone that will be able to read your SMS messages aloud.

Another feature Apple seemed to have left for the jailbreak community to solve, text to speech. TalkMe here to solve that problem, for SMS messages at least. It’ll read off only received messages allowing you the option to use different languages, and run the voice at user set speed. Works very well, and if you want to make your own messages to play back, just play a message, and press it to pop up your keyboard and type away.

Whiteboard allows two iPhone or iPod touch users to draw pictures together over wifi.

Imagine drawing on a big ol’ whiteboard, perhaps at school, with a friend. But on your iPhone or iPod touch with anyone on your local area network. That’s exactly what Collaborative Whiteboard is like.

The app provides a chat room like interface, each device automatically becoming it’s own host for you and your friend. The app provides a limited color selection, an erase tool, and a brush size slider. That’s all you’re given to draw with. Make your selection and tap in the center to start drawing. To either swap colors, tools, or brush size while drawing, put two fingers on the drawing area to bring back the menu. It’s that easy.

Never noticed any lag when drawing with someone else and it was very responsive. Only downside is the lack of more color selection and a bigger canvas. Otherwise this is an app to try.

A homework planner that adds events to your calendar for reminders!

HWPlanner aims to help you organize your homework, or potentially any task really. Creating classes, and creating tasks is real simple, but in task creation the app had crashed on me a few times doing so, not good. Upon exiting the app you’ll notice that your springboard is being reloaded. I assume it’s to allow the new calendar event to be made and viewable. Yet, when I visit my calendar there is no new event, nor at the correct time did I get an alert.

Bottom lime, decent management app, but don’t count on the calendar events to alert you.

A nice HTML BookReader for the iPhone 2.0 OS. Put books in /var/mobile/Media/eBooks

BookReader wants to take your ebooks and let you read them in an easy to read manner. BookReader features custom font sizes to better adjust to you, landscape mode, chapter and full screen support.

Well I definitely have found my new ebook reader. It loads books quickly and restores them to where I left off. The font resizing scales well with little load time and two buttons to quickly resize while reading. The full screen mode is also very nifty, just double tap the text. Oh, did I mention the landscape mode? It’s there and just as smooth as the rest of the features. If you’re looking for an ebook reader go try BookReader.

Full screen Safari browser for one site at a time. No URL bar. No commands.

You don’t have any ‘tabs’ either. . .but it is nice to browse with a full screen. I wonder why Apple doesn’t have a ‘full screen’ mode for MobileSafari.
