More App Store Reviews?

September 24, 08 by Doug

Things have been slow lately since most of the developers have jumped ship to develop for the App Store. I mean who can blame them when some developers have made over $250,000 in just a few short months. I have been posting some of the reviews that I do for AppStoreApps.com and I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t making some visitors mad. Maybe some don’t like paying for software(though I don’t see why not). . .even if it’s a fun or handy application/game.

I won’t be posting just these type of reviews here from now on. . .just until things begin to pick back up. . .and you know it will(especially with Apple rejecting so many applications lately).

Made it on G4TV!!!

September 17, 08 by Doug

Attack of the Show did a segment on iPhone applications and 2 of my videos made it in the segment(1 from here and 1 from AppStoreApps.com).

The video that made it, was the one I did for Pushr(Flickr image uploader)

How freaking sweet is that! Sadly they cut off the URL credit. . .but that’s OK. Though, I did find it funny they showed the credit URL for YouTube’s videos.

Pretty Stars!

August 23, 08 by Doug

So I just finished the upgrade with the website(took about an hour and a half). Everything seems to be working well. . .for now. . .but if you see anything that looks odd please let me know.

For now I have set the categories to Usability, Functionality, and Graphics. At AppStoreApps.com I also use Price, but it’s rare for developers to charge for apps in Installer or Cydia.

I have received a suggestion for Stability, which I have been thinking about adding. Then again, it’s rare for an application to get distributed and then it crash all the time.

Let me know what you think of the changes and/or if you have any thoughts on the categories used(or should be using)

Guess Who Got an iPhone?

August 21, 08 by Doug

I know what you’re going to say. . .’It’s about time!!!’. And boy do I agree. First I want to thank all of you guys(and girls). Without the community here(especially the ones who donated), it wouldn’t have been possible for me to get it. I took the money from our most recent advertiser, the $45 in donations, and I put in the rest. I got the iPhone off eBay for $300(thanks again for the fast shipping).

So now I can review applications that use the camera, microphone, or speakers. Two of the newest applications that I have been unable to review are, you guessed it, Flix Wagon and Qik. Sadly Qik requires cell service to activate the iPhone application(activation code via SMS). . .but maybe they will be able to do this via email.

So until then I will just show off a test video I did on Flix Wagon. You can find my profile HERE. . .I would like to continue to use this application with InstallerApps.com(maybe some behind the scenes stuff) but I’m not sure.

Here is a test video showing off my setup(computer, tv, consoles, etc). . .

Ready for an Upgrade?

August 19, 08 by Doug

The iPhone recently got an upgrade, so why shouldn’t we?

I have been testing some new code on another website. I wanted to make sure it worked 100% before installing it here and breaking something. This update will help bring the thoughts and opinions that the community has for each iPhone application(and update). I think that by encouraging the community to review and critique them(and having them all in one place), it will be a great resource for the developers of the applications. Which will, in turn, allow them to release better updates. . .and better applications.

But that’s not all!!!

We(everyone) will have the chance to rate specific ‘categories’ for each application. Not only will I get to add my specific rating, but you will as well. These ‘categories’ can be anything from ‘usability’, ‘functionality’, ‘graphics’, ‘ease of use’ or even ‘fun’.

This is where you come in. I want everyone to give their opinions on what ‘categories’ we should be using to rate the applications. Just keep in mind that we need 1 set of categories to use(this can be as many as we want). Even though ‘fun’ would be a great category for games. . .but what about something like BossPrefs.

In any case, please lets pool together as many categories that we can think of and lets find out which ones are the best.

Reviews Are Coming

August 04, 08 by Doug

Since the release of the 2.0 firmware I slowed down the reviews here. With all of the developers moving to the new firmware(not only the App Store, but Cydia and Installer as well), I thought it would be a waste of time to review apps that weren’t being developed anymore.

Earlier today I posted a poll asking what everyone thought about Cydia. A majority of the visitors who voted seem to be using it and enjoying it.

In any case, most of the applications in Cydia will be listed in Installer as well, so this week will bring some new reviews.
