Extensible Action Menu customization for OS versions 3.0/3.0.1. Integrates a variety of actions with every application on the device.

This app adds a couple tweaks to the iPhone OS, namely the clipboard.

It’s main draw is the ability to store multiple items on the clipboard at once, as opposed to the standard option of just one provided by Apple. It alters the the menu that appears and offers just a graphic representation instead of the textual one, though this can be disabled if you prefer.

It alleges that it offers some functionality in the dialer, but I have yet to figure that out, to be honest.

Frankly, though the idea of multiple things held on the clipboard is nice, it’s not really all that useful to me. And since I don’t find it’s user interface all that user friendly, I fail to see what this app really can provide.

The settings menu isn’t really all that descriptive with options like, “Dial” and “Favorites”.

Favorites takes you to a sub-menu, where you can create something (not a favorite contact, just favorite text) – text I imagine you can paste anywhere at any time without having to retype it over and over again. That has use, I suppose, but frankly, I don’t type much all that frequently to really find a practical time to apply it.

As it stands right now, it’s only available for the OS 3.0/3.0.1, which is perfectly reasonable, as it’s a jailbroken app and we don’t have access to a jailbroken 3.1 yet (come on dev team – we’re all rooting for you!), so if you’re running an iPod touch without the upgrade this isn’t a tweak you can play with.

When it all boils down to it, it’s not a bad adjustment, and I don’t want to come across as being completely flippant over it. I am sure there are a bunch of users who can find uses for this app (there is also an upgrade package available for purchase which provides you with more adjustments). I just kind of wish it was developed in a more obvious manner.

Version svn.r43

Provides a pop-up list that can be used to switch to/launch other applications without having to return to SpringBoard

Kirikae has recently released a new verison (svn.r43), which adds a favorites tab at the bottom.

So now you can double-click the home button at any time to pull up another app, and even have a section of favorite apps ready to pull up, even if you’re not running them.

Some users (myself being one of them) report a major bug, however. When clicking the Favorites tab it forces the phone to quit and restart in safe mode.

Some users on the app’s comment page allege this is from adding the iPod to the favorites, and removing it should remedy this issue, however, after trying it myself I can still report the same error keeps occurring.

I don’t mind beta testing software on occasion, but frankly, as it stands right now, this app has ceased to be functional.

My suggestion is, if you haven’t updated yet, don’t. Wait for the developer to remedy this issue, or do what I did, and remove it for now.

At least now I get my double click iPod controls back… for now… maybe.

Set desktop and SMS background in the iPhone settings without WinterBoard

Don’t want to go through the hassle of respringing every time you want to try out a new background? Here’s a quick and simple alternative.

Open up settings, click wallpaper and select the image you want to lay out. Above the selection are 2 i’s. The left for SMS and the right for Wallpaper. Click once to lay, select Set and then go view.

Don’t like it? Simple enough, go back and press i again to remove it. (Don’t forget to press Set when done).

It’s not as in depth as WinterBoard, for sure, but it’s a quick and easy way to get the job done.

Of course, this won’t apply any icon changes or dock changes (though it does give you a reflective dock toggle now too).

PrivaCy defaults to “allow”. You need to go under Settings/Privacy to turn off providers you wish to block.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the “privacygate” (if you will) issue with third-party developers tracking private information (such as location).

Well, thankfully, if you’re one of the sort who likes his or her privacy, this is the app for you.

The PrivaCy app lists all developers that share your information for their own benefit and allows you to select who you wish to disallow this use.

Simply download, open the Settings tool and flick each nosy developer to OFF.

It couldn’t be any simpler!

A wallpapers manager for your desktop that uses very little processor or memory. This is not a replacement for Winterboard. It is a separate enhancement to help fill the gap where I believe Winterboard leaves off.

Bosspaper offers a slew of customizable options for those who like an ever-evolving background. In addition to offering the option to cycle through various photos, you can select transition style (slide, curl or uncurl and more), transition length and even display length.

It also offers Dock alterations options.

In addition to customizing those specific options you can even download addon packs that compliment some existing themes as recommended by BigBoss. If you’re feeling more creative or wish to take more control of your background style, you can select from your own Camera Roll or other photo folder.

You can also keep it plain and simple and scroll through solid colors.

Though a vast number of these options are all available through Winterboard separately it’s kind of nice to have a fairly straightforward menu that houses all these options in one central location. That alone should please just about everyone.

If you find you’re viewing very, very large documents QuickScroll makes viewing those documents very easy. With a simple triple tap anywhere on the screen will bring up a box with a box that can be moved across the screen which represents your current viewing area of the document. If you’ve ever used Photoshop and moved your view of the image using the viewfinder up top, the experience is the same. Great for any large page.

FakeCarrier does something the jailbreak community has seen for a long time, changing our carrier logo or adding a message to the top instead of the time. How boring, the same thing again. Sure if you need one of these kind of tweaks FakeCarrier works fine. You can also add a battery percentage to the status bar if you don’t already have one, something else we’ve seen for a long time.

If you’ve ever been in a situation where you need to respring your iPhone but can’t get to the proper app to do so but you can get the power off slider, GPower simply adds the ability to respring, reboot, as well as power off your iPhone. Over 100 new features for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Supreme Preferences is back for the third time, this time bringing a ton of new settings and tweaks than before. Like it’s predecessors, Supreme Preferences adds tweaks that you can do to your iPhone/iPod Touch you may normally need to get another app for or do some trivial work around in the file system. It even makes it more convenient and adds all these wonderful new features to your default Settings application inside it’s own category.

As far as what you can do with Supreme Preferences, there is way too many to list them all. Things ranging from custom carrier and times on the status bar, enabling custom carrier settings, and many many more. Go download this app and try it out and enjoy the new sense of control.

3.0+ Only, as soon as you take a screenshot QuickShottr uploads it directly to ImageShack!

Considering I am one who takes many, many, many, many screenshots on my iPhone I found this to be pretty cool. Once you take a screenshot on your iPhone/iPod Touch it will be uploaded to ImageShack and the link automatically copied into your clipboard ready to be pasted into any app. This is really convenient when you want to quickly share an image to someone, but there are a few problems I have with it. One being that there is no pop up asking if you want to upload this screenshot. That would be great as you may make a mistake once in a while. Another would be the ability to link screenshots you’ve taken and uploaded to ImageShack in the past. A simple app that databased the URL for the screenshot for you would suffice.

Last night we released updated versions of our redsn0w jailbreak and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. These versions are now compatible with the iPhone 3GS running at 3.0. Welcome aboard, 3GS owners! (The tools of course remain compatible with all of the other platforms too.) Also last night, saurik released 3GS-compatible versions of MobileSubstrate and WinterBoard, components that enable many different add-ons and themes.

WinterBoard settings moves the control of WinterBoard to the Settings app.

WinterBoard settings is a nifty little tweak I like. It takes away the Winterboard icon and moves it to the settings app. You can go in there and change themes, completely enable or disable Winterboard, and enable logging. Simple, but very nice tweak.

Enhance the SpotLight feature in OS 3.0.

SpotBright wants to integrate the features from QuickGold that SpotLight doesn’t have in OS 3.0. The two features added in this version are the ability to launch hidden apps that are searched and keeping a list of recently used apps. The first screenshot shows how the list of recently used applications is displayed, and the second screenshot displays the searching of hidden apps, I have Stocks hidden because I don’t have a need for it.

Right now I really like this release of SpotBright. The developer also plans to gradually bring all the features from QuickGold into SpotLight through upgrades in SpotBright. Keep your eye on it as we could see some real enhancements in the near future!

With Ringtone Shuffler, every time a call come sin you hear a different ring tone that you can choose.

There are some people out there who enjoy customizing their ringtones on a daily basis. I am not one of those kind of people, but if you are Ringtone Shuffler might interest you. The name of the app is a perfect description, it shuffles your ringtone every time you get a call to something different. Open up the app and select the ringtones you would like the app to cycle between and exit. Your phone will automatically respring and now play a different tone out of your selection every time someone calls.

GriP is a notification system like Growl for the Mac.

If you’ve used a Mac, most likely you’re familiar with Growl, which is a notification system with support for many applications and services. GriP is an iPhone OS version of Growl. As of this writing, GriP is still in development and only has some basic support for a few apps, the only one I’ve see support for is Mail when I get a new message. You can configure the pop-ups to your liking with color, size, and eventually be able to theme them. As it stands now, it’s a good concept with a lot of work to be done but will be great of developers add support.

There’s no word on an official release, but don’t expect it till after OS 3.0 drops. I foresee a lot of potential with GriP and push notifications.

Simple application that pushes birthday information from your contacts to your calendar.

I apologize for the lack of a picture, but this app does absolutely nothing. Even if this app worked there is no interface or graphic to this app. Birthday Cal Push simply installs and you must run it once. When you run it all it will do it crash back to the springboard, but according to the description that is supposed to happen. Checking my calendar for my contacts’ birthdays, they are not there. I checked months ahead and in the past for my contacts’ birthdays and found none.

As of right now don’t even bother glancing at Birthday Cal Push. Though keep in mind that it is the first version and may actually work when it gets updated so if this is something you’re looking for keep your eyes peeled.

Kryptes is a new lightweight package handler that was designed with the end user in mind.

Another application installer, really? I guess it’s fair game, but with three others to compete with I cannot imagine seeing Kryptes get much popularity. I used Kryptes for a few days to use the app as a replacement for Cydia and the app it self, installing, browsing, and searching felt a bit smoother. It was speedy to load up and in the few days I tried Kryptes it hadn’t crashed on me, unlike Cydia has been prone to do lately. But the worst thing about Kryptes is that it doesn’t have that many apps, themes, and tweaks that Cydia now has. That obviously has to do with the popularity of it though, if Kryptes became popular you would soon find everything you see on Cydia there.

Unless Kryptes does something special to get attention it won’t be very popular. Right now most will not bother to get another installer application with less apps than Cydia. The application alone though, regardless of the number of applications available, is good. Speedy and reliable. Just needs more content.
